Report: Bruce Tall to WVU

As first reported by footballscoop.com, WVU has reportedly hired University of Charlotte defensive coordinator Bruce Tall.  It is not clear yet which role Tall will play on the defensive staff.

Tall was a safeties coach at WVU under Rich Rodriguez before following him to Michigan where he was the Wolverines defensive line coach. Originally from Shaker Heights, Tall is also well known for his recruiting in Ohio.

This hire will lead to further speculation regarding who head coach Dana Holgorsen plans to retain on staff going into the 2015 season. Both Joe DeForest and Brian Mitchell have contracts that are expiring at the end of January. It has been previously reported that Holgorsen and interim AD Keli Cunningham were trying to renegotiate DeForest’s contract to a lesser amount. This is not the first time Tall has been considered for a return to Morgantown. Before now DC Tony Gibson was hired Tall’s name had emerged as a candidate.

Tall’s contract was set to expire at Charlotte. However, there was no indication that Tall was not going to be retained. Bruce is leaving former Mountaineer coach and current Charlotte OC Jeff Mullen.

Holgorsen also has to decide on the direction of his offensive staff with the departure of OC Shannon Dawson.
