There are still questions remaining as to whether his contract will be re-negotiated to include more years and a lower buyout. Holgorsen is 35-28 in five seasons at WVU. Despite having winning records in four of his five seasons he has been considered on the coaching hot seat for the past two seasons despite an overall record of 14-11. His 10-10 Big 12 record over the last two seasons has been a sticking point with fans.
Throughout the season it was speculated that Holgorsen needed to win at least eight games to retain his job. This report of his return for a sixth season flies in the face of that speculation. Moving forward it will be interesting to see what Shane Lyons’ criteria will be in order for Holgorsen to continue as the head coach of the Mountaineers for years to come.
BGS has been informed that Shane Lyons will officially announce Holgorsen’s return in a press release in the near future. The expectation is that this will end all speculation and allow both the team and the staff focus on the bowl game. This will also ease any hesitancy from potential recruits.
