MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (September 24, 2021) – After conducting a two-week tryout, the West Virginia University rowing team has announced its 2021-22 novice squad, featuring 17 first-year rowers.
“First, we want to thank everyone who showed interest in our team, came to tryouts, and gave their best,” Tina Griffith, WVU assistant rowing coach, said. “After not having a Novice squad last year due to Covid, it makes this year’s group very special and very important to our forward progress as a team overall. Watching the effort given by everyone at tryouts made a positive impression on the coaching staff and we are looking forward to seeing what this group is able to achieve both on and off the water.”
The squad hails from 11 different states, including one from West Virginia.
The newest Mountaineers will go through a boathouse orientation tomorrow, Saturday, September 25, then will practice throughout the fall until they have their first competition at the Head of the Occoquan Regatta on Saturday, November 6, at Fairfax Station, Virginia, hosted by George Mason.
