West Virginia University pitcher Ryan Bergert was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the sixth round of the 2021 MLB Draft.
Bergert was hurt this past year and therefore was unable to pitch for the Mountaineers, but nonetheless still had a good career at West Virginia.
In two years, Bergert finished with a 2.30 ERA, throwing 58.2 innings, and striking out 68 while only walking 19, and giving up 15 earned runs.
Bergert was supposed to be the ace of the West Virginia staff this past season, but was injured before the season started and was out for the year.
Although he was drafted, Bergert will retain the option to return to school, and will have to make a decision by August 1.
