Seven Big 12 schools set to appear in Bowl Games

After an impressive regular season, the Big 12 conference will be sending seven teams to a bowl game, after these teams secured six or more victories through the 12-game regular season slate.

West Virginia’s win against Kansas this weekend was able to get them to six wins, and get them bowl eligible for the second straight season. Yahoo Sports projects the Mountaineers to make the Duke’s Mayo Bowl versus Tennessee on Dec. 30.

The top team amongst those seven Big 12 members is No. 5 Oklahoma State who boasts an almost perfect 8-1 conference record this season and is projected by many to take part in this year’s College Football Playoff of the top four teams in the country. Bleacher Report put out their college football projections and has Oklahoma State facing off against No. 1 Georgia in the Orange Bowl on Dec. 31.

The Cowboys are led offensively by redshirt junior quarterback Spencer Sanders who tossed for 16 touchdowns and 2,211 yards in 11 games played this season under center. Redshirt senior running back Jaylen Warren has been the difference on the ground racking up 11 touchdowns and 1,134 rushing yards.

The next team down the line set to participate in the college football postseason format is No. 9 Baylor who is projected by Bleacher Report to take part in the Sugar Bowl against No. 4 Alabama on New Year’s Day. The Bears have had a high-flying offensive attack all season led by junior quarterback Gerry Bohanon who has thrown for 17 touchdowns and gone for a total of 2,160 yards.

No. 13 Oklahoma will also get to take part in a bowl game this season, however maybe not where they are used to in the four-team playoff. Yahoo Sports projects that Oklahoma will play in the Valero Alamo Bowl against No. 14 Utah on Dec. 29.

The Sooners are paced by not only one top tier quarterback but two in freshman Caleb Williams who owns 18 passing touchdowns on the year and redshirt sophomore Spencer Rattler who has thrown 11 touchdowns this year.

Iowa State has enjoyed another successful season under the leadership of head coach Matt Campbell and will now set their sights on whoever they will face next after finishing the year 7-5 with a 5-4 mark in Big 12 play. The Cyclones were projected by Yahoo Sports to play in the Cheez-It Bowl against No. 22 Clemson on Dec. 29.

The obvious standout for Iowa State is junior running back Breece Hall who capped his season going for 20 touchdowns and 1,472 yards on the ground in 12 games.

The team the Mountaineers most recently fell to was Kansas State who will also be earning a bowl game berth after finishing the season 7-5. The Wildcats are projected by Yahoo Sports to play in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl against South Carolina.

The final team from the Big 12 conference set to snap the ball in a bowl game this season are the 6-6 Red Raiders of Texas Tech. Tech is projected by Yahoo Sports to oppose Maryland in the Guaranteed Rate Bowl on Dec. 28.

However the college football bowl game slate shapes up to look like, we can all bet that it’s going to be a fun bowling season with so much top tier college gridiron talent on display for everyone to watch, and if the conference is lucky, Oklahoma State will be able to play for a National Championship.
