TBT, The Basketball Tournament, to proceed without fans

The Basketball Tournament, “TBT,” has made a name for its summer tournament over the last several years, especially with West Virginia basketball fans nationwide. Former Mountaineers have made a team for the tournament, Team Best Virginia, and were excited to play in front of local West Virginia fans in Charleston, West Virginia in just a few short months.

The TBT announced on Wednesday that the tournament will go on this summer. The tournament will have one quarantined location, where all of the teams will play the entire tournament, as opposed to varying locations around the country. There will still be all 24 teams with single elimination as planned.Tickets will be refunded for all fans who purchased tickets previously.

The tournament will have mandatory health and temperature checks for all of the players and those affiliated with the team. TBT staff will keep the quarantined tournament location sanitized and eliminate a team if a player tests positive. Per ESPN, TBT staffers will encourage players to use a contact tracing apps when they can to help do their part.

The tournament is referring to the location site as the “inner island” and will only be allowed admission to the location providing players have no temperatures and the team does not have the virus. Players will take a second COVID test five days before the tournament starts. There will not be contact between the teams once in the inner island.

The Best Virginia team has been announcing via social media the Mountaineers who have committed to play on this summer’s Best Virginia team. The team is spearheaded by John Flowers, Kevin Jones, and Da’Sean Butler to name a few.
