MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (November 15, 2021) – West Virginia University Director of Athletics Shane Lyons has released the 2022 spring tennis schedule on Monday.
“We are excited about the upcoming spring season and the opportunity that we have as a program to position ourselves on a national stage and a competitor in the Big 12 Conference,” Mountaineer coach Miha Lisac said. “We have a great team and the schedule allows us to compete at a high level before the start of conference matches.”
WVU’s spring slate is made up of 19 dual matches, including nine Big 12 Conference matches.
The Mountaineers open their spring season with three consecutive road contests, beginning with Penn State, on Jan. 21, in State College, Pennsylvania, before traveling to Virginia for a pair of non-conference matches.
WVU starts their weekend in Virginia with William & Mary in Williamsburg, on Saturday, February 5, before traveling to Richmond, to face VCU, on Sunday, Feb. 6.
The Mountaineers compete at home for the first time in 2022, as they play host to Duquesne and Youngstown State on Sunday, Feb. 13.
West Virginia is back on the road later that week as they head to Huntington, W.Va., to take on the in-state foe Marshall on Feb. 18. The squads then travels to Lexington, Kentucky for a match-up against Kentucky on Feb. 20.
Following the team’s third road trip, the Mountaineers return to Morgantown for nine consecutive matches starting on Saturday, Feb. 26, as they play host to George Washington and Toledo.
Penn makes their way to the Mountain State on Saturday, March 5, before WVU takes on Delaware on Sunday, Mar. 6, and Michigan State on Wednesday, Mar. 9.
WVU wraps up a busy week in Morgantown, as it welcomes Towson and St. Francis on Saturday, Mar. 12, before heading into Big 12 competition.
West Virginia concludes its March home stint with Texas on Friday, March 18, and Baylor on Mar. 20, before traveling to Texas for a pair of conference matches. WVU kicks off its trip in Texas with a match-up against TCU in Fort Worth, on March 25, before heading to Lubbock to face Texas Tech, on Mar. 27.
After competition in Texas, the Mountaineers continue their road stint as they travel to Kansas. West Virginia first travels to Lawrence, to play the Jayhawks on April 1, before making their way to Manhattan, to continue Big 12 play against Kansas State on April 3.
WVU concludes its home schedule later in the week as the team hosts Oklahoma State on Friday, April 8, and Oklahoma on Sunday, April 10. Sunday’s contest against the Sooners is Senior Day and marks the final home match for Mountaineer senior Anastasiia Bovolskaia.
The Mountaineers conclude the regular season and Big 12 Conference play on April 17, as WVU travels to Ames, Iowa, to face Iowa State.
West Virginia is set to begin postseason play on Thursday, April 21, at the 2022 Big 12 Championship, hosted by TCU at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The event runs from April 21-24.
