THE DUGOUT REPORT: 7/1/16-7/7/16, Mountaineers blasting out in July

The Mountaineer’s who are in the MiLB and the MLB are out to a good start during the first week of July.

Bobby Boyd- Lancaster Jethawks, Single A Advanced (Astros)

Boyd and the Jethawks saw action nearly all week. In a 4-game road series at Lake Elsinore, Boyd saw action three times from June 30th to July 3rd. On July 2nd, Boyd went 0-4, he also went 0-4 on July 3rd as well. The next day Boyd and the Jethawks were back home to face Visalia in a 4 game home series. Boyd on July 4th went 1-5 with 1 run and 2 RBI’s. On July 6th, Boyd went 0-3 with 2 runs and 1 RBI and then on 7/7, Boyd went 1-4 with 1 RBI and 1 run. Boyd’s batting average is now .156

Harrison Musgrave- Albuquerque Isotopes, Triple A (Rockies)

Musgrave saw action only once this week for the Isotopes. In an away game against Sacramento, Musgrave pitched for 7.0 innings and allowed 6 hits and 1 run. His ERA for the season is now 3.92

John Means- Bowie Baysox, Double A (Orioles) 

Means saw action twice for the Baysox this week. On 7/1, Means pitched for 3.1 innings and allowed 4 hits and 2 runs against Altoona. Later in the week on 7/6, Means pitched for 6.0 innings and allowed 3 hits and 0 runs while striking out one against Trenton and putting a W in his win category, and his season ERA is now 3.81

Sean Carley- Charleston RiverDogs, Single A (Yankees)

Carley saw action once this week for the RiverDogs. On 7/1, Carley pitched for 2.0 innings and allowed 1 hit and struck out 1. Carley’s season ERA is now 3.12

Corey Walter- Midland Rockhounds, Double A (Athletics)

Walter also saw action once this week. In a series facing Arkansas, Walter pitched 4.0 innings and allowed 3 hits while striking out 4 batters. Walter’s ERA on the season is now 1.66

Ryan McBroom- Dunedin BlueJays, Single A (BlueJays)

McBroom saw action all week for the BlueJays. In a home series facing Tampa, Mcbroom saw action 3 times in the series. On 7/1, McBroom went 0-5. McBroom would bounce back then next day going 1-4 with 1 run and 2 RBI’s. On 7/3, McBroom finished off the series going 1-3. Later in the week, McBroom and the BlueJays would face Brevard County in a 3 game road trip. On 7/4, McBroom went 0-3 while bouncing back on 7/5 going 1-4 with 1 run. McBroom finished up the series against Brevard County on 7/6 going 2-5 with 1 run and 1 RBI. On 7/7, McBroom and the BlueJays started a series facing Clearwater. To start the series off, McBroom went 0-5 bringing his batting average to .244

Blake Smith- Orem Owls, Single A Rookie (Angles) 

Smith continues to get experience under his belt after being drafted while getting to see action twice this week for Orem. On 7/1, Smith started July by pitching 1.2 innings and allowing 2 hits while striking out 1 versus Ogden. On 7/5, Smith saw action against Grand Junction for 3.0 innings while allowing 3 hits and 1 run. Smith also struck out a season high 6 batters in the game against Grand Junction. His season ERA is now 1.93.

Cam O’Brien- Bluefield BlueJays, Single A Rookie (BlueJays)

O’Brine continues to see action for Bluefield after being signed to a free agent contract. On 7/1 facing Kingsport, O’Brine went 1-3 with 2 runs. Later in the week in a series facing Danville, O’Brine went 1-3 with 1 run, bringing his batting average for the season to .286

Jedd Gyorko- St.Louis Cardinals, MLB

The Morgantown native Gyorko saw action multiple times this week with the Cardinals. In a homestand facing Milwaukee on 7/3, Gyorko went 1-1. Starting on 7/4, Gyorko and the Cardinals would go on to play the Pittsburgh Pirates in a home series. On 7/4, Gyorko went 0-3 with 1 run scored. On 7/5, Gyorko went 2-4 and had 1 RBI while on 7/6, Gyorko went 1-3 with 1 run and 1 RBI. Gyorko has a .238 batting average on the 2016 season.
