The Dugout Report 7/15/16-7/21/16 Jedd Gyorko on a hot streak

This week in the Dugout Report, we get you caught up on how our Mountaineers are doing in the MiLB and the MLB, including a strong week from Jedd Gyorko as he played against his old ball club.

Jedd Gyorko – St. Louis Cardinals

Gyorko saw action six times this week for the cardinals. First on 7/15 in a home series facing the Miami Marlins, Gyorko went 1-3 with 1 run. On 7/17 to finish the home series against the Marlins, Gyorko went 0-4. The next day the Cardinals would start a home series facing Gyorko’s original team, the San Diego Padres. Gyorko on 7/18 in the first game went 3-3 for 2 runs, 1 home run, and 1 RBI. Gyorko would continue this momentum the next day on 7/19 going 1-3 with 1 run and 2 RBI’s. On 7/20, Gyorko would turn heads going 3-4 with 2 runs, 2 homeruns, and 3 RBI’s. To finish off the week, Gyorko would face the Padres again on 7/21 and went 1-4 with 1 run and 1 RBI. Gyorko now has a batting average of .412 on the season.

Bobby Boyd – Lancaster Jethawks, Single A Advanced (Astros)

Boyd saw action 5 times this week for the Jethawks. On 7/15, Boyd finished off a home series facing San Jose in which he went 2-5 with 1 run and 2 RBI’s. The next day would place Boyd and the Jethawks on the road for a 4 game road series facing Rancho Cucamonga. On 7/16, Boyd went 1-5 with 1 run, while on 7/17 Boyd went 1-4 with 1 home run and 1 RBI. After taking one day off, Boyd played the final game against Rancho Cucamonga on 7/19 with an impressive outing going 3-5 with 1 run, 1 homerun, and 3 RBI’s. To finish off his week on 7/21, Boyd and the Jethawks would stay home and face High Desert, in which Boyd went 1-6. Boyd now has an ERA of .357 on the season.

Harrison Musgrave – Albuquerque Isotopes, Triple A (Rockies)

Musgrave saw action once this week in a homestand facing Memphis. On 7/17, Musgrave saw 6.0 innings while allowing 8 hits with 6 runs, and fanning 4 batters. Musgrave now has an ERA of 4.37 on the season.

John Means – Bowie Baysox, Double A (Orioles)

Means saw action once this week for the Baysox. On 7/21 in a home series facing Erie, Means pitched for 5.1 innings and allowed 4 hits with 2 runs while fanning 4 batters. Means brings his ERA to 4.53 on the season.

Sean Carley – Charleston Riverdogs, Single A (Yankees)

Carley also had one pitching performance this week. In a home game facing Lake Wood on 7/16, Carley pitched for 3.0 innings and allowed 1 hit while striking out 2 batters. Carley has an ERA of 1.98 on the season.

Corey Walter – Midland Rockhounds, Double A (Athletics) 

Walter had 2 outings this week as well. In a matchup at home facing Corpus Christi on 7/17, Walter pitched for 2.0 innings and allowed 1 hit with 1 run while striking out 0 batters.Later in the week Walter would face San Antonio on 7/21. Walter pitched for 4.0 innings and allowed 3 hits while striking out 1 batter. Walter now has an ERA of 2.57 on the season.

Ryan McBroom, New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Double A (BlueJays)

McBroom saw action 6 times this week for Dunedin. In a home series that started last week against Bradenton, McBroom went 2-4 with 1 run on 7/15 and then on 7/16 McBroom went 0-3 with 1 run to finish up the home series. The next day Dunedin would continue their homestand this time against Charlotte. On 7/17, McBroom went 0-4 to start the series but would start to rise the next day on 7/18 going 1-3. The next day on 7/19, McBroom went 1-4 but then on 7/20, McBroom finished the home series going 1-4 with 1 run. McBroom would later be called up to the Double A affiliate for the Blue Jays, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. McBroom has a batting average of .268.

Blake Smith, Burlington Bees, Single A (Angles) 

Smith pitched twice this week for two teams. On 7/16, Smith would pitch his last game for the Orem Owlz against Billings. Smith pitched for 2.0 innings and allowed 4 hits with 2 runs while striking out 1 batter. Later on, Smith would be called up to the Single A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angles, the Burlington Bees. On 7/20, Smith would make his debut in a Bees uniform pitching against South Bend. Smith would pitch for 2.0 innings while allowing 1 hit, 1 run, and having 1 strikeout. Smith has an ERA of 4.67 on the season.

Cam O’Brien, Bluefield Bluejays, Single A Rookie (BlueJays)

O’Brine has continued to see playing time for the Bluefield Bluejays, having seen action 3 times this week. On 7/17, O’Brine would face Greeneville and would go 0-1 but would bounce back the next night on 7/18 going 2-4. The next day O’Brine and the Bluejays would face Bristol. O’Brine went 0-3 on 7/19. O’Brine has an ERA of .375 on the season so far.

Ray Guerrini, Arizona League Mariners, Rookie

Guerrini saw action once this week for his then team the Everett Aquasox. On 7/18, Guerrini went 2-4 with 1 run. On 7/20, Guerrini was assigned to the Arizona League by the Mariners. On 7/21 he would make his debut in the Arizona League facing the Arizona League Padres. Guerrini would finish the game going 1-2 with 1 RBI. Guerrini now has a batting average of .348 on the season.
