This week on the Dugout Report, we take a look at the Mountaineers who are currently in the MiLB and the MLB.
Bobby Boyd- Lancaster Jethawks, Single A (Astros)
Boyd and the Jethawks started the week off in a 4 game road series against Inland Empire, where Boyd saw action in 3 games of the series. On 7/8, Boyd went 0-3 with 1 run, on 7/9, Boyd went 1-2, and then to finish up the road trip on 7/11, Boyd went 3-5 with 1 run and 2 RBI’s. Later in the week, the Jethawks and Boyd returned home for a home series facing San Jose. Boyd on 7/13 went 3-4 with 2 runs, and then on 7/14, Boyd went 0-3. After this week it brings Boyd’s batting average to .243.
Harrison Musgrave- Albuquerque Isotopes, Triple A (Rockies)
Musgrave saw action once this week for the Isotopes. In a series facing Las Vegas, Musgrave pitched 3.1 innings and allowed 5 hits and 5 runs while striking out 3 batters. Musgrave so far in the season has an ERA of 4.37.
John Means- Bowie Baysox, Double A (Orioles)
Means saw action once this week for the Baysox. In a game facing Richmond, Means pitched for 5.0 innings and allowed 10 hits and 3 runs while striking out 3 batters. Means now has an ERA of 4.05 on the season.
Sean Carley- Charleston Riverdogs, Single A (Yankees)
Carley pitched one time this week for the Riverdogs. In a series facing Asheville on 7/8, Carley pitched 2.0 innings and allowed 1 hit and struck out 4. Carley now has an ERA of 2.53.
Corey Walter- Midland Rockhounds, Double A (Athletics)
Walter pitched twice this week. In a series at home facing North Western Arkansas, on 7/8, Walter pitched 2.0 innings, and allowed 4 hits and 3 runs and struck out 1. Later in the week on 7/14, Walter pitched 2.0 innings against San Antonio and allowed 2 hits and struck out 1 batter. Walter now has an ERA of 2.65 on the season.
Ryan McBroom- Dunedin Bluejays, Single A (BlueJays)
McBroom and the Bluejays saw action multiple times this week. In a 4 game road series facing Fort Myers, McBroom saw action during every game. On 7/8, McBroom went 1-3 while in improving the next night on 7/9 going 2-5 with 1 run and 1 RBI. On 7/10 McBroom saw the plate 5 times but went 1-5 on the day with 1 RBI, but bounced back on 7/11 going 2-4 with 1 run, 1 RBI, and a home run to finish up the series. After having one day off, McBroom saw action once again in a home series facing Bradenton. On 7/13, McBroom went 1-5 with 1 home run, and 3 RBI’s while finishing up the week on 7/14 going 2-5 with 1 run and 2 RBI’s. McBroom now has a batting average of .264 this season.
Blake Smith- Orem Owlz, Single A Rookie (Angles)
Smith saw action twice this week for the Owlz. On 7/9 in a home series facing Idaho Falls, Smith pitched for 2.0 innings and allowed 6 hits, 3 runs, and struck out 3 batters. Two days later, Smith would be back on the mound pitching against Great Falls for 2.0 innings while allowing 4 hits, 1 run, and striking out 3 batters. Smith brings his ERA to 4.05 on the season.
Cam O’Brien- Bluefield Bluejays, Single A Rookie (Bluejays)
O’Brien saw action for Bluefield three times this week. In a series in Johnson City, O’Brien saw action twice during the series on 7/10 going 1-3, and then on 7/11 going 2-2 with 1 run. Later in the week on 7/13, the Bluejays would face the Princeton Rays in one of the biggest rivalries in the Appalachian league in the “Battle for the Mercer Cup”. O’Brien saw action on 7/13 going 2-4 and bringing his batting average to .438 on the season..
Jedd Gyorko- St.Louis Cardinals, MLB
Due to the MLB All-Star festivities, Gyorko only saw action twice this week for the Cardinals. In an away series facing the Brewers, Gyorko on 7/8 went 0-1 and then on 7/9 went 2-5 with 1 RBI. At the break, Gyorko has a batting average of .296.
