After a dominant performance against the #3 Kansas Jayhawks in Saturday afternoons loss, Oscar Tshiebwe was awarded the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week award, for the third time this season.
Tshiebwe finished with 17 points, and 17 rebounds on the afternoon, including completing a double-double by halftime.
Oscar was given high praise by the Jayhawks players and coaching staff after the game, after playing the team he was once recruited by.
“Those weren’t fouls, Oscar is a monster,” said Jayhawk head coach Bill Self. “It’s hard to simulate that in practice.”
Tshiebwe proved to be a force in the paint during the 1st half of play and even got the attention of Kansas big-man and fellow NBA prospect Udoka Azubuike.
“Oscar is a grown man,” said Azubuike. “I’ve never played against somebody like that. He’s hard to move in the paint. I tried to box him out and he wasn’t moving.”
With the performance, Tshiebwe moves his season averages to 12.2 PPG and 9.4 RPG.
