Tshiebwe earns fourth Newcomer of the Week honor

Austin Reaves (Oklahoma) and Oscar Tshiebwe (West Virginia) earned the season’s final Big 12 men’s basketball weekly awards. Reaves picked up his first Big 12 Player of the Week while Tshiebwe collected his fourth Newcomer of the Week.

Reaves led the Big 12 in scoring last week with 27.0 points to go with 7.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 blocks. He shot 51.6% from the floor and 95% from the foul line. His week was highlighted by a 41-point performance (25 in the second half) to help the Sooners come back from 20 down to win at TCU. Reaves hit the game-winning shot with 0.5 seconds left. He joins Ben Simmons as the only Division I players in the last 20 years to have 40+ points, 5+ rebounds, 5+ assists & 3+ blocks in a game. His 41 points are the most by a Big 12 player since former Sooner Trae Young scored 44 against Baylor on Jan. 30, 2018. OU’s 18-point halftime deficit is the largest halftime deficit overcome on the road in Big 12 history.

Tshiebwe averaged a double-double in a 2-0 week for West Virginia. He recorded his 10th double-double of the season with 16 points and 12 rebounds in the 12-point win over No. 4 Baylor. Earlier in the week, he nearly had a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds in the win at Iowa State. Tshiebewe shot 50 percent from the field and 13-of-14 (92.9 percent) from the free throw line. He is second in the Big 12 with 9.3 rebounds per game and tied for first with 4.1 offensive rebounds a game.
