It’s day eight of Twelve Days of Mountaineers and today is all about recognizing the awards won by the football players.
In 2020, Darius Stills became just the 11th Mountaineer to be selected as an AP First Team All-American. The last to do it was Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey.
The Fairmont native also won Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year and was selected to the Big 12 First Team.
Tykee Smith had a unique situation occur in 2020. Smith was selected as an AP Third Team All-American, but didn’t receive any recognition to be on the Big 12 teams.
Tony Fields transferred from Tuscon to Morgantown in hopes of getting his name out there. The former Wildcat did just that.
Fields was awarded Big 12 Defensive Newcomer of the Year and was alongside Stills on the Big 12 First Team.
Leddie Brown finishes off the trio of Mountaineers on the first team. Brown finished with over 1,000 yards on the season with 11 total touchdowns.
The players listed on the Big 12 Second Team were Alonzo Addae, Winston Wright Jr., Michael Brown and Akheem Mesidor.
This football season was a success in seeing these players’ growth throughout the season.
