Twelve Days of Mountaineers Day Nine: Mountaineers Trounce Kansas State at Home

It’s the second day of a new year and the ninth day of the year 2021. Let’s all collectively cross our fingers for a brighter year forward. Today’s also the first of two men’s basketball games in the State of Oklahoma. The Mountaineers take on the Sooners today and the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Monday.

Now, back to the Twelve Days of Mountaineers. Day nine. Selfishly, this is one of my personal favorite days to look back at.

The Mountaineers beat the Kansas State Wildcats at home in Morgantown.

Now for some, you might ask why this gets its own day when we just looked back at all of the home wins, but this day was a special one. A noon kickoff, Homecoming, Halloween and the perfect football Saturday just had the right mix for a day to hear “Country Roads.”

It was just short of perfect, especially being there in person. For this Mountaineer, it was the first game attended in person for the season, and there were plenty of emotions (I’m not embarrassed at all). The Mountaineers were coming off of that brutal loss to Texas Tech and a win was much-needed.

Jarret Doege and the offense delivered on a performance. The starting quarterback was 22 of 34 for two touchdowns and 301 yards. The defense put a stop to the Wildcats consistently throughout the game, with 67 total tackles in four quarters.

The Mountaineers won 37-10 and “Country Roads” was cued up for all. Want a glimpse at what the game was like for one of our interns? Check out Ethan’s first football game experience in Morgantown here.
