It’s Christmas Day and day one of the Twelve Days of Mountaineers! On day one, we pay homage to one of the greatest venues in college sports, The Coliseum.
The Coliseum turned 50 years old this year, and received a facelift with all new seats throughout! The Coliseum has long-been a pinnacle icon in Mountaineer fans’ eyes, as well as Mountaineer history.
On the 50th anniversary of the Coliseum, West Virginia University showcased a social media campaign all about the Coliseum, #Coliseum50.
The Coliseum has been home to so many important moments in Mountaineer history: from retiring Jerry West’s jersey in 2005, to Hot Rod Hunley’s jersey in 2016, beating number one Kansas at home in 2016, Coach Bob Huggins’ 800th win and retiring Rod Thorn’s jersey in February of 2020.
Truly, the memories, moments and rounds of “Country Roads” are endless over the last 50 years in the Coliseum.
There are countless moments to celebrate and remember over 50 years of our beloved Coliseum. What’s your favorite memory in the Coliseum?
