Ultimate Mountaineer Fan Contest: Meet Sara

Charleston, S.C. – If you’ve been on social media any time over the past several weeks, you’ve seen tons of posts about the Ultimate Mountaineer Fan contest going on through West Virginia University. One of the contestants, Sara Roth, is a friend of Blue Gold Sports co-owner Ashley and we thought it would be great for Mountaineer nation to get a little behind the scenes with one of the contestants.

Tell us a bit about your love of West Virginia University. Are you from West Virginia? What’s your fondest memories at WVU?:

“I am from Parkersburg, WV and fell in love with WVU the moment I walked on campus when I was in 9th grade. My fondest memories of WVU are being in the Pride of West Virginia and attending home WVU football games (especially running out of the tunnel for pre-game) as well as attending several bowl games.”

What’s the most fun football game you attended both home and away?:

“Home – WVU vs. Miami in 1993, away – WVU vs. Georgia in the Sugar Bowl in Atlanta”

What do you do to stay in touch with WVU?:

“I try to stay in touch with WVU as much as possible. I am the President of the Low Country Mountaineers Alumni Chapter in Charleston, SC.  With that, I try to keep the chapter connected to WVU as much as possible by holding tons of events such as game watches, community service events, networking events, family events and college fairs.  We are currently working on endowing a scholarship for our chapter, to help send a student from South Carolina to WVU each year!  On a more personal level, I try to attend as many football games as I can. Also, if any other sports teams are within a couple hours of Charleston I do my best to support them as well!”

Explain the inspiration/creation process of the t-shirt:

“I wanted to shirt to be bold and simple and to show our school colors.  I want the shirt to be recognizable as a WVU shirt from a distance and leave no doubt in anybody’s mind what school we are representing. I also wanted it to be a shirt that a WVU fan could wear, no matter where they reside today!”

What are you most looking forward to for football season next year?:

“I am excited to head to Atlanta to see how our team will fare under our second year with Coach Brown. I have a feeling we will have a great year and surprise a lot of pollsters!”
