Unexpected Offer Puts WVU Among Top Choices

Highly recruited 3 star OLB Chase Pine was looking forward to visiting the WVU campus this past Sunday. Fresh off an offer from Virginia Tech the 6’4 220lb linebacker was still looking for that first Big 12 offer to add to an already impressive list.

After meeting with coaches Lonnie Galloway and Anthony Leonard Chase received the offer. When asked about whether  the offer was expected Pine stated, “honestly not yesterday, no I wasn’t. But when they did I was very happy to get one from a Big 12 school like WVU”.

While Pine is still early in his recruitment the impression the University and coaching staff made on him left a lasting impression. “The school atmosphere and player history is great”, Chase said of his visit.

Chase went on to tell me that the offer catapulted WVU to among the top of his list, a list that now includes WVU, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Georgia, Pitt, and Notre Dame. Although Pine has yet to receive an offer from the Irish he is scheduled to visit South Bend this week and will be a major competitor for Pines services along with Virginia Tech who was his childhood team.

Being in a major conference was a big selling point for Pine who’s offer list includes schools from the ACC, Big 12, SEC, and Pac12. “The fact that it (WVU) is a big program is a key factor”. Pine will undoubtedly pick up more offers before he is ready to make his decision. However, Chase informed me WVU can expect to see him again for an official visit this fall. Pine is ranked in the top 60 in the nation at the linebacker position for the 2017 class.
