Wendell Smallwood a top performer at NFL Combine

Every year, the NFL Combine provides prospects the opportunity to show their talents in hopes of moving up draft boards. On Friday, WVU underclassman RB Wendell Smallwood showed that he is NFL ready.

Smallwood measured out at 5’10” 208 lbs. with 30 1/2″ arms and 9 1/4″ hands. He was a the Top Performer in the 3-cone Drill and one of the top performers in the 60-yard Shuttle.

His results:

  • 40-yard Dash: 4.47 (T-5th)
  • Bench Press: 14 reps
  • Vertical Jump: 33.5″ (14th)
  • Broad Jump: 120″ (10th)
  • 3-cone Drill: 6.83 seconds (1st)
  • 20-yard Shuttle: 4.28 seconds (7th)
  • 60-yard Shuttle: 11.14 seconds (1st)

The combination of his top showing in the 3-cone Drill and 60-yard shuttle shows scouts that he is near the top of this RB class in lateral agility, cutting, change of direction, quickness, body control and flexibility.

He solidified himself as a day 3 projection on Friday. With WVU’s Pro Day on April 4th and private team workouts in the weeks leading up to the draft, Smallwood could find himself in a great spot to start his NFL career.
