West Virginia and Richmond set to meet in Vegas Invitational

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.—The Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational announced the pairings for this year’s tournament, which is held November 26-27, at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas.

The West Virginia Mountaineers will take on Richmond in the opening round. On Nov. 26 at 5 p.m. (ET). The game will be televised on Fox Sports 1.

The winner will take on the winner of the California-San Diego State game on Nov.27 at 10:30 p.m. The loser of the first game will battle the loser of the Cal-SDSU game on Nov. 27 at

The last meeting between the Spiders and the Mountaineers was in 2001 when Richmond knocked off West Virginia during the NIT.

The Mountaineers lead the all-time series 40-13.

The Spiders finished 21-14 last season and made it to the quarterfinals the NIT. Richmond is led by senior Terry Allen and juniors ShawnDre’ Jones and T.J. Cline.

Allen averaged 13 points and 6.7 rebounds per game last season. Jones was the Atlantic 10’s Sixth Man of the Year after averaging 10.3 points, while adding team-high 90 assists. Cline was second on the team in shooting from 3-point range, making 38.8 percent. He averaged 11.8 points.

West Virginia is coming off one of the school’s better seasons in recent years. The Mountaineers won 25 games and made it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.

West Virginia returns seven players from last season’s squad. Junior forward Devin Williams started 34 games and led the Mountaineers in rebounding at 8.1 per game, while finishing second in scoring at 11.6 points per game.

Sophomore Jevon Carter averaged 8.1 points. Senior forward Jonathan Holton averaged 7.5 points and sophomore Daxter Miles Jr. averaged 7.3 points.

Each team will play four games in the Invitational – the first two at on-campus sites and the final two rounds in Las Vegas.
