MORGANTOWN, W.Va–Last season the West Virginia University basketball team surprised many with their 25-win season and Sweet 16 run.

With the basketball season approaching, the Mountaineers are ready to pick up right where they left off.

At Tuesday’s practice, several players wore shirts that read “Houston 4-4-16.” That is the date and location of the 2016 Final Four.

That is what this year’s team is shooting for.

“That (shirt) is the date of the Final Four and where it is,” Nathan Adrian said. We just have it as a reminder of what we are working towards.

The Mountaineers had similar aspirations last season but fell a little short.

“We got similar goals,” Daxter Miles Jr. said. Try and make it far this year coming up. It just seem like everybody is on the same page this year. We are shooting for the stars.”

“We say it every day when we come in,” Jaysean Paige said. “We are the national champs. So that’s the goal. That’s where it is. It’s in Houston, so that’s where we are looking forward to playing at the time of the year. So let’s play some basketball.

While some people may think WVU is dreaming, it is a dream that could become a reality. The Mountaineers only lost three pieces to last season’s team.

WVU ‘s recruiting class has the potential to be special. There is the speedy guard James “Beetle” Bolden and the do-it-all Esa Ahmad, which both look to play key roles for the Mountaineers this season.

A new crop of talent could be just what WVU needs to land back in the Final Four for the first time since 2010.
