West Virginia to Cactus Bowl

As expected, The West Virginia Mountaineers have accepted an invitation to play in the Cactus Bowl on January 2nd in Phoenix, Arizona against Arizona State.

The Mountaineers finished the season 7-5 and tied for 5th in the Big 12 Conference with Texas Tech and Texas. This will be the Mountaineers second trip to Phoenix and the first since 1998 when the bowl was called the Bowl. West Virginia lost that game 34-31 to Missouri.

Arizona State finished the season 6-6 and fourth in the south division of the Pac 12 Conference. The Sun Devils last played in the Cactus Bowl in 2005 when they beat Rutgers 45-40.

The two have played each other only once in 1979. The Sun Devils won 42-7 in Tempe, AZ.

The game will kick off on Saturday January 2 at 10:15 PM and will be aired on ESPN. The game will be played at Chase Field, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
