Charlotte, N.C, – Midday Tuesday morning the Charlotte Panthers announced their latest pre-season roster cuts going into the 2021-2022 NFL season. West Virginia alum and quarterback Will Grier was one of the 13 players cut from head coach Matt Rhule’s roster.
Grier was drafted during the 2019 NFL draft, from a relative’s home mere minutes from Bank of America stadium. A native Charlottean and Davidson Day graduate, Grier played two seasons at West Virginia before joining the Carolina Panthers. The quarterback has only played for his hometown team since joining the NFL.
In the most recent pre-season game versus the Pittsburgh Steelers, Grier went 5-7 for 47 yards and one touchdown.
The now-free agent Grier made two starts as a rookie, yet did not appear in any games during the 2020-2021 season. Grier leaves P.J. Walker as the only quarterback behind Sam Darnold on Carolina’s depth chart.
