STATESBORO, Ga.–Jackson Wolf’s stellar outing helped West Virginia defeat Georgia Southern 3-1 in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader.
The sophomore lefty tossed 7.1 innings, giving up one run on three hits. He struck out two and walked two.
The Mountaineers (4-2) scored three runs on seven hits. The Eagles (1-4) didn’t get a hit until the fourth inning.
Ivan Gonzalez led WVU with two hits and two RBIs.
In the first inning, Gonzalez doubled to left field, scoring Marques Inman and Tyler Doanes.
The Mountaineers held that 2-0 lead until the bottom of the eighth when Christian Avant’s double plated Blake Evans.
However, WVU got the run back in the ninth when Tevin Tucker walked and scored on a wild pitch.
The Mountaineers and Georgia Southern will conclude the doubleheader at 5 p.m.
