WVU 12 Days of Christmas: Days two and three

On the second day of Christmas, what will West Virginia give to me?

Over the next 12 days, we will be making a West Virginia themed 12 days of Christmas in regard to West Virginia sports.

On the second day of Christmas, West Virginia gave to me, two wins over old Big East rivals.

This season by virtue of scheduling and the Big East/Big 12 Matchup, West Virginia men’s basketball team was able to defeat Pitt and UConn. The Mountaineers have shown up in big games throughout the years, but the biggest two games of the season thus far have been over Pitt and UConn. Pitt, was West Virginia’s second game of the season, while UConn was played a month later.

On the third day of Christmas, West Virginia gave to me, three Sweet Sixteen’s since 2015.

After their Final Four appearance in 2010, West Virginia made the tournament only twice until 2015. The Mountaineers have built a culture based on defense and much of that has come with Bob Huggins’ recent success with “Press Virginia.” From 2015-2018, West Virginia made the Sweet Sixteen in three of the four years. West Virginia has been one of the better teams in the Big 12 since 2015 and have continued to build a program they hope can find the Final Four once again.
