WVU AD Search Ventures Into SEC Country

With WVU President Gordon Gee stating that he hopes to have a replacement for departing athletic director Oliver Luck by early January, he is officially on the clock. And it seems the search has reached into SEC country. All indications are that Alabama deputy athletic director Shane Lyons is the leader at the moment.

There are conflicting reports as to whether Rob Mullens, Oregon AD, has removed his name from consideration. What is known right now is that Lyons is the leader to get the position that becomes vacant on January 15th. Lyons is a Parkersburg, WV native and WVU graduate.

Before accepting his current job at Alabama Lyons was an associate commissioner of the ACC. Lyons has recently been quoted as saying he would like to come home. BGS has also learned that Lyons will be in Morgantown next week.

No matter who takes the job we should know by mid January at the latest.
