Late Monday night WVU defensive coordinator Tony Gibson received encouraging news when JUCO DE/OLB Quondarius Qualls announced that he was flipping his commitment from Southern Miss to WVU.
Qualls,a 6’2 220 lbs. hybrid defender fron Northwest Mississippi Community College could give the Mountaineers a much needed blitzing presence next season. Qualls registered a team high 10 sacks last season to go along with 67 tackles including 16.5 for loss. Along with a knack for blitzing the QB, Qualls can drop into coverage with 4.5 40 speed so the possibilities for Tony Gibson to use Qualls all over the field are there.
Qualls committed to Southern Miss in late August but decided to committ to the Mountaineers late last night, joining fellow teammate Jalen Harvey and current Mountaineer Justin Crawford so it appears a pipeline has formed between WVU and Northwest Mississippi.
The announcement of Qualls to WVU is a big one considering how young the Mountaineers defense is and the experience that Qualls will bring to that young defense.
