The West Virginia Mountaineers have announced their uniforms for Saturday’s matchup against Iowa State. The Mountaineers will be wearing the traditional home uniform, which is blue helmets, blue jerseys, and gold pants.
These uniforms have been worn more than any other in WVU’s history, as it was pretty much the only combination worn at home during the Don Nehlen era (1980-2000).
While this combination was worn for every home game in other decades, it is usually only dawned once a year nowadays.
Most recent games where this combination was worn:
- 2020 vs. Kansas (38-17 WVU)
- 2019 vs. James Madison (20-13 WVU)
- 2018 vs. Oklahoma (59-56 OU)
There are plenty of notable games where WVU wore the traditional combo, but the best games that come to mind are as follows:
- 1983 vs. Pitt (24-21)
- 1984 vs Penn State (17-14 WVU)
- 1987 Sun Bowl vs. Oklahoma State (35-33 OSU)
- 1988 vs. Syracuse (31-9 WVU)
- 1993 vs. Miami (17-14)
Saturday’s game between the Mountaineers and the Cyclones will kick off at 2:00 p.m. on ESPN+ from Milan Puskar Stadium.
