The West Virginia University women’s basketball team finished their European tour with a 67-42 win over CREF Hola! Madrid at the Canal arena on Thursday.
The Mountaineers overcame a power outage and a slow start to complete the four game European sweep. This is the second time West Virginia has went unbeaten in an international tour with the other occurring during the team’s 2007 visit to Australia.
CREF Hola! Madrid went on a 10-1 run in the second quarter and took a 29-27 lead to the locker room. But West Virginia came out firing in the third and went on a 19-4 run.
A power outage led the two teams to play without power and a functioning scoreboard most of the game.
Teana Muldrow had a game-high 17 points, seven rebounds and six steals. Freshman Katrina Pardee finished her fourth consecutive game with double-figures scoring 14 points. Lanay Montgomery had 17 points and seven rebounds.
West Virginia’s defense forced 32 CREF Hola! Madrid turnovers, while committing just 18.
The Mountaineers slightly outrebounded CREF, 35-33. West Virginia finished the night shooting 43.2 percent inside the paint and shot 36.8 percent from beyond-the-arc.
CREF took 31-27 before West Virginia made 10 consecutive points and produced a 19-4 run in the third quarter.
