The new members of the coaching staff at WVU are making their presence felt early in their first full class at WVU. After picking up two commits in the last three days WVU landed another from 2017 ATH Collin Smith Tuesday night.
Smith, a 6’0 200 lbs. two way player for Ligonier Valley (PA), will provide more secondary depth for the Mountaineers coaching staff next season, an area this staff has obviously set out to improve with this class. Smith chose WVU on Tuesday while on an unofficial visit to Morgantown. The Mountaineers beat out Boston College, Louisville, Michigan, and UConn for the versatile defensive back.
Smith will provide WVU with depth in the secondary but can be used at multiple positions. Smith has the look of a safety in the 3-3-5 scheme but could be used as a cornerback if needed. Smith joins Eugene Brown and Alex Woods as the newest additions to the WVU secondary in 2017.
Coach Adams and Coach Caponi, both new to the staff in 2016, are putting together a very impressive defensive backfield in the 2017 class. Look for this trend to continue with more prospects in the fold.
