WVU drops season finale to Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla.–Lindy Waters scored 19 points as Oklahoma State defeated West Virginia 85-77 on Saturday afternoon.

Yor Anei tallied 16 points for the Cowboys (12-19, 5-13 Big 12). Thomas Dziagwa chipped in 15 points. Cameron McGriff had 14 points and Curtis Jones 13.

Jermaine Haley, Derek Culver and Lamont West each scored 16 points for the Mountaineers (12-19, 4-14). Culver had 21 rebounds. Emmitt Matthews Jr. added 13 points and Jordan McCabe had 12.

Both teams battled hard for 40 minutes but it was OSU who came out on top

West drained a 3-pointer to cut the Cowboys’ lead down to 76-74 with 2:59 remaining. However, Waters answered with is own 3.

WVU  had a chance to tie it but Anei blocked Culver’s shot and rushed down the court and slammed it home to give OSU an 81-74 edge. Isaac Likekele made a pair of free throws to push the lead to nine.

With 1:12 Haley sank a 3-pointer to make it a two-possession game. McGriff was fouled and missed the free throw. Culver grabbed the rebound but was unable to score.

The Mountaineers outrebounded the Cowboys 40-32.

WVU shot 45 percent from the floor, 46 percent from beyond the arc and 67 percent from the charity stripe.

OSU shot 50 percent from the field, 46 percent from 3-point range and 78 percent from the line.

The Mountaineers will play Oklahoma in the opening round of the Big 12 Championship on Wednesday.
