WVU Football Announces Mid-Year Additions

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (December 19, 2014) – West Virginia University football coach Dana Holgorsen has announced the signing of Rasul Douglas to a national letter of intent and athletic grant-in-aid and the addition of transfer Michael Ferns for the spring 2015 semester.


Rasul Douglas, DB, 6-2, 197, East Orange, N.J./Nassau Community College

Played for coach Joseph Osovet at Nassau Community College in Garden City, New York … helped team to a 10-0 record and a victory in the Valley of the Sun Bowl in 2014 … registered 43 tackles as a sophomore, including 33 unassisted and 7.5 tackles for loss … also had two interceptions, 15 pass breakups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery … ranked fifth nationally in pass breakups … made five or more tackles in five games … collected 11 stops, including 10 solo and 1.5 tackles for loss against Lackawanna … 2014 All-Northeast Football Conference (NFC) Defensive MVP … 2014 All-NFC First Team Offense … as a freshman, he compiled 40 tackles, including 27 unassisted tackles, three interceptions and three pass breakups … four-star defensive back prospect by 247Sports and ESPN … three-star rating by Rivals and Scout … No. 23 on the Rivals Junior College Preseason Top 100 …  No. 3 Junior College defensive back according to ESPN … No. 20 on the ESPN Junior College Top 50 … also offered by Florida State, Illinois, Kansas, Louisville, Rutgers and Tennessee … previously played for Marion Bell at East Orange High.


Michael Ferns, LB, 6-3, 239, Saint Clairsville, Ohio/Michigan

Redshirted freshman season at Michigan … previously attended Saint Clairsville High … totaled 144 tackles, four sacks and two forced fumbles as a senior in 2014 … registered 133 tackles as a junior and 136 tackles as a sophomore … attended but did not participate due to injury in the 2014 Under Armour All-America Game … All-Eastern District First Team and All-OVAC First Team selection in 2014 … garnered Ohio Special Honorable Mention All-State accolades as a senior … No. 211 on the Rivals250 … No. 14 ranked inside linebacker and No. 7 player in Ohio according to Rivals in 2014 … No. 129 on the ESPN300 … four-star prospect according to Rivals, ESPN, Scout and 247Sports.
