Moments after the commitment of JUCO DB Toyous Avery, the WVU coaching staff was able to land another key commit from defensive back prospect JoVanni Stewart.
Stewart, 5’9 185 lbs. defensive back from Katy (TX), has been a safety at the high school level but could be used as a cornerback in the Mountaineers 3-3-5 scheme given the additions of Kyzir White and Toyous Avery at the safety position. Stewart may not be as highly regarded as White and Avery were during the recruiting process, he was considered one of the most underrated players in the state of Texas. In addition to being a key piece to his team’s defense, Stewart is a track star at Katy High and is considered one of the top tacklers on his 5A state championship team.
Stewart has been a target of the Mountaineers coaching staff for quite sometime now given their need for defensive backs which the coaching staff has stressed ever since the departure of Daryl Worley earlier in the month. WVU will lose it’s top 3 cornerbacks from last season (Worley, Chestnut and Rumph) so Stewart will be counted on to contribute probably right away on defense.
While the state of West Virginia is seeing record snowfall all around, the campus on WVU is on fire this afternoon with now two commits in an area that fans were becoming concerned about.
