WVU loses one, wins one in fall baseball action

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team opened its five-game fall baseball slate last Sunday, Sept. 27. Two games in, the Mountaineers hold a 1-1 record.

The Potomac St. Catamounts defeated West Virginia 6-3 in game one. In game two, head coach Randy Mazey’s squad defeated Waynesburg 11-2.

“We tried to get a lot of freshmen in the lineup tonight,” Mazey said in a press release following West Virginia’s victory over Waynesburg. “During these fall games, it’s important to see what these young kids can do. We watched the returning players compete all year last year, so we know what they are capable of. The younger squad did a good job with getting on base and moving the baseball a little bit.”

The Mountaineer baseball team will host its annual Alumni Game tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. At least 30 former West Virginia players are expected to play.

West Virginia’s fall baseball schedule has two games remaining following tomorrow’s Alumni Game. Both games will be against in-state rival Marshall.
