MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Sept. 30, 2021) – The West Virginia University baseball team opens its 2021 fall slate by playing host to Marshall on Friday, Oct. 1. First pitch at Wagener Field at Monongalia County Ballpark is set for 6 p.m. ET.
Admission is free for all fans attending the exhibition contest. Additionally, concessions will be available on the concourse of the ballpark.
Of note, the game will not be streamed.
WVU and Marshall have met 75 times in the regular season since the all-time series began in 1910. The Mountaineers own a 50-25 record against their in-state foe, including nine wins in its last 10 games.
Last season, the Mountaineers took two-of-three games over the Thundering Herd, featuring home wins on April 14 (9-3) and May 11 (4-1).
In exhibition play, the two Mountain State programs last met in 2019, playing a pair of games in Morgantown and Charleston, West Virginia.
The Mountaineers’ fall roster features 43 players, including 22 newcomers. The club finished 25-27 in 2021, winning multiple games at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship for the sixth time in the last eight tournaments, including five in a row.
WVU is set to return three 2021 All-Big 12 contributors in senior outfielder Austin Davis (Honorable Mention), sophomore infielder Mikey Kluska (All-Freshman Team) and sophomore left-handed pitcher Ben Hampton (All-Freshman Team). Additionally, Hampton was tabbed as a Freshman All-America selection by Perfect Game.
