STILLWATER, Okla.–West Virginia rallied to beat No. 23 Oklahoma State 4-2 on Sunday afternoon and take the season series.
Kade Strowd (4-2) tossed 7.1 innings, surrendering two runs on four hits. He fanned 10 batters. Sam Kessler earned his sixth save for the Mountaineers (19-12).
Peyton Battenfield (3-3) suffered the loss for the Cowboys (19-11).
Darius Hill had three hits and drove in two runs.
WVU took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Darius Hill doubled down the right field line, scoring Brandon White.
However, Oklahoma State responded in the bottom half of the frame when Colin Simpson hit a two-run homer to center field.
After trailing most of the game, the Mountaineers began their rally in the eighth. With one out, Hill singled through the right side and advanced to second on an error. Then Marques Inman walked before Paul McIntosh’s single plated Hill.
With two out, Kevin Brophy walked to load the bases and TJ Lake walked to give the Mountaineers a 3-2 lead.
WVU tacked on a run in the ninth when Hill’s base hit drove in White.
The Mountaineers scored four runs on eight hits. The Cowboys scored two runs on four hits.
WVU travels to College Park to face Maryland Wednesday at 4 p.m. (ET).
