WVU Set to Host Martha Thorn Invite

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (October 14, 2021) – Following a week off of competition, the West Virginia University tennis team returns to Morgantown to host the annual Martha Thorn Invitational from October 15-17.

Friday and Saturday’s competition are set to begin at 9 a.m. ET, while the final day of competition will begin at 10 a.m. WVU plans to keep play outside at the Mountaineer Tennis Courts. In the event of inclement weather, play will move to the Summit Tennis Academy indoor facility.

Results will be updated on PlaySight throughout the weekend and posted to WVUsports.com following the conclusion of each day.

“It’s great to be back at home competing in the Martha Thorn Invitational,” coach Miha Lisac said. “We’re also looking forward to growing as a team through what will be a good weekend of competition!”

West Virginia welcomes three teams to Morgantown for play this weekend, including JMU, Louisville and Penn State. The Invitational did not take place during the 2020-21 season, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Friday’s tournament opener, WVU is scheduled to begin in doubles against JMU at 9 a.m. Following JMU, the Mountaineers will face the Nittany Lions at 9:30 a.m. To wrap up the first day of play, West Virginia will play in singles against Louisville at 11 a.m.

The Mountaineers begin day two in doubles play on Saturday morning, at 9 a.m. going toe-to-toe with the Cardinals. WVU concludes the second day of competition in singles play during Saturday’s afternoon session at 2 p.m.

To cap off West Virginia’s tournament action, the Mountaineers will take on PSU in singles play, Sunday at noon.
