MORGANTOWN, W.Va.–On Wednesday afternoon, West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins met with members of the media to talk about the team’s summer practices and upcoming trip to Spain.

Hard work pays off:

As of the beginning of summer forward Logan Routt is back on scholarship for his senior season.

On the mend:

After the basketball season, Jordan McCabe had minor knee surgery to repair a torn MCL. But the sophomore is on the mend and expected to play in Spain.

Loose ties:

Taz Sherman and Ethan Richardson are not yet enrolled in school and will miss the Spain trip. Both are expected to be ready for fall.

Huggins believes the Spain trip will be good for team bonding with all the new faces. The newcomers are fitting in well with the returning players.

Lack of enthusiasm plagued last year’s team but early on this team has a good attitude and puts forth a lot of effort. By rule, the basketball team is only allowed to work out an hour. However, the players are taking it upon themselves to get in the gym and work.

Guards Galore:

Huggins states that this year’s team will be guard oriented and it will be common to see three guards on the court together.

Growing Pains:

Emmitt Matthews had an up and down freshman campaign but has improved tremendously over the summer. He has put on some weight and his skill level has improved.
