WVU will play on ESPN’s Big Monday in 2016

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.– The Big 12 Conference has announced its schedule on ESPN’s Big Monday for the 2016 men’s basketball conference season on Wednesday afternoon.

More than 100 games will be shown on the ESPN networks.

The West Virginia Mountaineers will play on Big Monday on Feb. 22 when the Iowa State Cyclones travel to Morgantown.

Last time the Cyclones were in town, the two teams battled down to the wire. Iowa State beat the Mountaineers 74-72 in the final seconds when Abdel Nadar made three free throws in the final seconds.

Last season’s games were full of nail biters for the Big 12. The average margin of victory was 8.75 points. Five of the eight contests were decided by seven points or less.

The 20th year of the long-standing and popular arrangement with ESPN will tip off in 2016 with three straight matchups among teams projected in the top 10 of most preseason polls – Oklahoma at Kansas

(Jan. 4), OU at Iowa

State (Jan. 18) and Kansas at Iowa State (Jan. 25).

In February, Texas will travels to Baylor in a battle between the lone star state rivals.

Texas will play a second straight Big 12 Monday on February 8 when it faces its Red River Rivalry foe at OU.

Kansas will host Oklahoma State on February 18. The slate concludes on l Feb. 29 when the Jayhawks travel to Texas.

The Big 12 is the only league among the Big 12, ACC, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC to play a full double round-robin schedule in basketball.

The Conference was rated as No. 1 in the RPI a year ago for the second straight campaign, with every squad recording at least one victory over a top 25 opponent. Nine of 10 league squads were ranked or received votes in the top 25 last year.
