MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (Sept 29, 2020) –The West Virginia University women’s soccer team ranks No. 7 in this week’s United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Women’s National Poll, which was released on Tuesday.
The Mountaineers (2-1, 2-1 Big 12) are down three spots from last week’s rankings but remain in the poll’s top 10 for the second straight week to begin the season. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, only teams competing in the fall were considered for the poll. The number of teams appearing in each ranking is also lower due to the number of teams competing. The women’s poll features a top 15 this season.
Once again this week, North Carolina (3-0) tops the poll, while Florida State (2-0), Clemson (3-0), Oklahoma State (3-0) and Texas A&M (1-0) round out the top five. From there, Kansas (2-0) ranks No. 6. After WVU, Georgia (1-0-1), Arkansas (2-0) and Virginia (2-1-1) rank No. 8, No. 9 and No. 10, respectively.
Along with Big 12 squads No. 4 Oklahoma State, No. 6 Kansas and No. 7 West Virginia, TCU (1-0-1) also appears in this week’s poll, sitting at No. 12.
Next up, the Mountaineers return home to play host to Texas on Friday, Oct. 2, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
