WVUPros Dugout Report: Guerrini rejoins the Aqua Sox, O’Brien heats up in Bluefied

This week on the WVUPros Dugout Report, we get you caught up on all things revolving around the WVU Baseball Alumni for the week of 8/5-8/11.

Bobby Boyd – Lancaster Jethawks, Single-A Advanced (Astros)

Boyd saw action 5 times this week for the Jethawks. To start this week off, Boyd continued a home series facing Modesto. On 8/5, Boyd went 0-4 with 1 run and 1 RBI, while finishing off the series on 8/6 going 2-4 with 1 RBI. After having a couple days off, Boyd was back in the lineup for an away series facing Inland Empire. To start the series out on 8/9, Boyd went 1-5 with 1 RBI. The next day Boyd would pretty much the same going 1-4 with 1 RBI on 8/10. Boyd would finish up his week on 8/11 facing Inland Empire in which he would go 1-4 with 1 run and 2 RBIs. Boyd has a batting average of .163 on the season.

Harrison Musgrave – Albuquerque Isotopes, Triple-A (Rockies)

Musgrave saw action once this week for the Isotopes. On 8/5, Musgrave pitched for 5.0 innings against Sacramento and allowed 3 runs off of 7 hits while striking out 1 batter. Musgrave has an ERA of 4.78 on the season.

John Means – Bowie Baysox, Double A (Orioles)

Means saw action once this week for Bowie. In a home game on 8/7, Means pitched for 5.0 innings and allowed 3 runs off of 4 hits while striking out 6 batters in the victory facing Richmond. Means has a batting average of 5.77 on the season.

Sean Carley – Charleston Riverdogs, Single A (Yankees)

Carley pitched once this week for the Riverdogs. On 8/10 in a home series facing Rome, Carley pitched for 4.0 innings and allowed 2 runs off of 4 hits while striking out 2 batters in the loss. Carley has a ERA of 2.45 on the season.

Corey Walter – Midland Rockhounds, Double A (Athletics) 

Walter saw action once this week for the Rockhounds. In a home game facing Corpus Christi, Walter pitched for 4.0 innings and allowed 2 runs off of 5 hits and struck out 2 batters. Walter has an ERA of 1.54 on the season.

Ryan McBroom – Dunedin Bluejays, Single A (BlueJays)

McBroom saw action 8 times this week. On 8/6, McBroom saw action in both games of a double header facing Brevard County. In the first game, McBroom 0-3 while during the second game, McBroom went 1-3. The next day in the series finale, McBroom would go 3-5 with 1 RBI. On 8/8, McBroom and the Bluejays would continue on the road this time facing Daytona. To start the series off, McBroom would go 1-4 with 1 run, 1 homerun, and 2 RBIs. After a rain cancellation on 8/9, McBroom would see action in a double header again. On 8/10, McBroom would go 1-2 with 1 RBI in the first half of the doubleheader while going 2-4 with 2 runs, 1 homerun, and 4 RBIs to finish off the series. On 8/11, McBroom would finally be home facing Brevard County, going 0-4 to start the series off. McBroom has a batting average of .333 on the season.

Blake Smith – Burlington Bees, Single A (Angles) 

Smith would see action twice this week all in the same series facing Quad Cities. On 8/7, Smith would pitch for 2.0 innings and would allow 1 run off of 5 hits while striking out 1 batter. Two days later on 8/9, Smith would pitch for 1.0 inning and would go 0 across the board. Smith has an ERA of 3.74 on the season.

Cam O’Brien – Bluefield Bluejays, Single A Rookie (BlueJays)

O’Brien saw action 5 times this week for Bluefield. On 8/6 in a home game facing Danville, O’Brien would go 0-0 with 1 run scored. The next day, O’Brien would face the Princeton Rays in the season long “Battle for the Mercer Cup”. On 8/7, O’Brien would go 4-5 with 3 runs, 1 homerun, and 2 RBIs. The next day, O’Brien would play in a doubleheader and would go 0-2 in the first half while going 1-3 with 1 RBI in the second half. On 8/9, O’Brien would finish up the away series facing Princeton going 0-3 with 1 run. O’Brien has a batting average of .308 on the season.

Ray Guerrini – Everett AquaSox, Single A (Mariners) 

Guerrini would rejoin the AquaSox this week. On 8/7 while playing for the Arizona League Mariners, Guerrini would go 1-2 with 1 run facing the AZL Rangers, while the next day on 8/8, Guerrini would go 0-4. Two days later, Guerrini would rejoin the Aqua Sox and would face Vancouver in an away series. On 8/10, Guerrini would go 1-4 with 2 RBIs. Guerrini has a batting average of .304 on the season.

Jedd Gyorko – St. Louis Cardinals

Gyorko would see action 6 times this week for the Cardinals. On 8/5 in a home series facing the Atlanta Braves, Gyorko would go 0-3 while the next day going 0-2 with 1 RBI. To finish off the series, Gyorko would go 1-3 on 8/7. On 8/8, Gyorko and the Cardinals would continue their homestand starting a series facing Cincinnati Reds. To start the series, Gyorko would go 1-4 while going 0-3 the next day. Gyorko would finish his week off on 8/11 in an away game facing the Chicago Cubs. In the game facing the Cubs, Gyorko would go 1-3, and after the game it would bring his batting average to .242 on the season.
