WVUPros Dugout Report: Gyorko heating up in St. Louis

This week on the WVUPros Dugout Report, we get you caught up on how the Mountaineers are doing in the MiLB and the MLB during the week of 7/22 to 7/28.

Bobby Boyd – Lancaster Jethawks, Single-A Advanced (Astros)

In a home series facing High Desert, Boyd nearly every game in the home series. On 7/22 Boyd went 1-5 and to finish up his series on 7/23, Boyd went 1-5 with 1 run and 1 RBI. Later in the week, Boyd and the Jethawks would face Lake Elsinore. On 7/25 Boyd went 2-5 with 1 RBI and 1 Run in the series opener, while the next day Boyd went 1-5 with 2 runs on 7/26. To finish off Boyd’s week, he faced Bakersfield on 7/28 and went 1-3 with 1 run. As of 7/28, Boyd has a batting average of .292 on the season.

Harrison Musgrave – Albuquerque Isotopes, Triple-A (Rockies)

Musgrave saw action only once this week for Albuquerque. On 7/23 in an away game facing Fresno, Musgrave pitched for 7.0 innings and struck out 3 batters while allowing 7 hits and 4 runs in the victory. Musgrave now has an ERA of 4.68 on the season.

John Means – Bowie Baysox, Double A (Orioles) 

Means saw action once this week for the Baysox in a homestand facing Hartford on 7/27. Means pitched 4.0 innings and allowed 6 runs off of 10 hits while striking out 1 batter. Means has an ERA of 5.01 on the season.

Sean Carley – Charleston Riverdogs, SIngle A (Yankees)

Carley pitched once for the Riverdogs this week. On 7/24, Carley pitched against Hagerstown for 3.0 innings and allowed 1 hit and struck out 1 batter. Carley now has an ERA of 1.62 on the season.

Corey Walter – Midland Rockhounds, Double A (Athletics) 

Walter pitched once this week for the Rockhounds. On 7/27 in a game facing Frisco, Walter pitched for 4.0 innings and allowed 1 hit. Walter now has a 2.31 on the season.

Ryan McBroom – New Hampshire Fisher Cats, Double A (BlueJays)

McBroom saw action 6 times this week for the Fisher Cats after being called up last week. On 7/22 facing Trenton in a home series, McBroom went 0-4, while on 7/23 McBroom went 0-3 with 1 run and 1 RBI. To finish off the series, on 7/24, McBroom went 0-3. On 7/26, McBroom started an away series facing Harrisonburg, in a double header. For the first game on 7/26, McBroom went 0-3 while on the next game McBroom went 1-3. To finish off the week, McBroom went 0-3 with 1 run on 7/27. McBroom now has a batting average of .118 on the season.

Blake Smith – Burlington Bees, Single A (Angles) 

Smith pitched twice for the Bees this week. On 7/23 in an away game facing West Michigan, Smith pitched 2.1 innings and 2 hits while striking out 1 batter. Later in the week on 7/27 in a home series facing Beloit, Smith pitched for 2.0 inning and allowed 1 hit and struck out 2 batters. Smith now has an ERA of 3.48 on the season.

Cam O’Brien – Bluefield Bluejays, Single A Rookie (BlueJays)

O’Brien played twice this week for hte Bluejays. In a home game facing Burlington, O’Brien 1-3 with 1 run. Later in the week, O’Brien traveled to play Kingsport on 7/26, he went 0-2. O’Brien now has a batting average of .357 on the season.

Ray Guerrini – Arizona League Mariners, Rookie Arizona League

Guerrini played 3 times this week for the Mariners. On 7/23, Guerrini faced the DiamondBacks and went 0-1. After a couple days off, Guerrrini faced the Royals and went 0-2. To finish off the week, Guerrini faced the Padres and went 1-2. Guerrini has a batting average of .350 on the season.

Jedd Gyorko – St. Louis Cardinals

Gyorko saw action 7 times this week for the Cardinals. On 7/22 in a home series facing the LA Dodgers, Gyorko went 2-5 with 1 run and 1 home run. The next two games in the series, Gyorko went 0-4 in both games. On 7/26, the Cardinals faced the Mets in a double header. In the first game of the doubleheader facing the Mets, Gyorko went 1-4 with 1 home run, and then in the later part of the doubleheader, Gyorko went 1-3 with 1 homerun. The next day on 7/27 to finish up the series facing the Mets, Gyorko went 0-3. On 7/28, Gyorko and the Cardinals started an away series facing the Miami Marlins.  Gyorko went 1-4 in the series opener. On the season, Gyorko has a batting average of .254
