WVUPros Dugout Report: Jedd Gyorko leading NL in home runs since . . .

This week on the Dugout Report, we get you caught up on how your WVU Baseball Alumni are doing in the MiLB and the MLB, along with some moves and some incredible stats.

Jedd Gyorko – St. Louis Cardinals

Gyorko has been on fire ever since the All Star Game break this season. Since the ASG Break, Gyorko has led the National League in home runs with 11 since the break. This week Gyorko would see action 5 times for St. Louis. On 8/12 in an away series facing the Chicago Cubs, Gyorko would go 2-4 with 1 run, 1 home run, and 1 RBI. The next day on 8/13, Gyorko would go 1-3 with 2 runs, 1 home run, and 2 RBIs. To finish up the series facing the Cubs, Gyorko would go 1-3. After a day off, Gyorko would return in an away series facing the Houston Astros on 8/16 and would go 1-4 with 1 run, 1 home run, and 3 RBIs. To finish off the week on 8/17 against the Astros, Gyorko would go 0-4 with 1 run scored. Gyorko now has a batting average of .244 on the season.

Bobby Boyd – Corpus Christi Hooks, Double-A (Astros)

Boyd started this week off by being called up to the Double-A Affiliate of the Houston Astros, the Corpus Christi Hooks. In Boyd’s debut for the Hooks against Arkansas, Boyd went 1-4 with 1 run on 8/12 and would do the same on 8/13. On 8/14, Boyd 1-2 with 1 RBI to finish his first series in the Double A. On 8/16, Boyd would travel to North West Arkansas for a series. Boyd would start the series going 1-4 with 2 runs scored. To finish off the week on 8/18, Boyd would continue the series against NW Arkansas and would go 1-4 with 1 run scored. Boyd now has a batting average of .286 on the season.

Harrison Musgrave – Albuquerque Isotopes, Triple-A (Rockies)

Musgrave would pitch twice this week for the Isotopes and would pick up a win in both starts. On 8/12, Musgrave pitched for 6.0 innings and would allow 1 run off of 6 hits while striking out 8 Colorado Springs batters. Later in the week on 8/18, Musgrave would see the mound again pitching against Oklahoma City. In the game against Oklahoma City, Musgrave would pitch for 7.0 innings and would allow 2 runs off of 4 hits while striking out 3 batters. Musgrave has an ERA of 3.64 on the season.

John Means – Bowie Baysox, Double A (Orioles)

Means would see action only once this week for the Baysox. On 8/14, Means would pitch for 6.0 innings against Richmond and would allow 1 run off of 5 hits while striking out 4 Richmond batters. Means has an ERA of 3.67 on the season.

Sean Carley – Charleston Riverdogs, Single A (Yankees)

Carley would only see action once this week as well for the Riverdogs. On 8/17 against Augusta, Carley pitched for 2.0 innings and would allow 1 hit while striking out 4 batters. Carley has an ERA of 2.28 on the season.

Corey Walter – Midland Rockhounds, Double A (Athletics) 

Walter saw the mound twice this week for the Rockhounds. On 8/12, Walter pitched for 3.0 innings against Springfield and would allow 0 runs off of 2 hits while striking out 2 batters. Later in the week on 8/18 against Tulsa, Walter would pitch for 3.0 innings and would allow 0 runs off of 1 hit while striking out 3 batters. Walter now has an ERA of 2.13 on the season.

Ryan McBroom – Dunedin Bluejays, Single A (BlueJays)

McBroom saw action in 7 games this week for Dunedin. Starting off the week continuing the series facing Brevard County on 8/12, McBroom would go 1-3 with 1 run, 1 home run, and 2 RBIs in the game. The next day on 8/13, McBroom would go 2-5 with 2 RBIs finishing up the home series. On 8/14, McBroom and the Bluejays would host Clearwater with McBroom going 3-4 with 1 run. The next day they would travel to Clearwater for a 1 game series in which McBroom would go 0-4. On 8/16, McBroom saw action in home series facing Daytona. McBroom would start the series off by going 4-5 with 2 runs and 3 RBIs in the game while going 1-4 on 8/17. To finish off the week and series facing Daytona, McBroom would go 1-2 with 1 run scored. McBroom now has a batting average of .270 on the season

Blake Smith – Burlington Bees, Single A (Angles) 

Smith saw action 3 times this week for Burlington. On 8/12, Smith saw the mound facing Clinton in which Smith would pitch for 2.0 innings and would allow 0 runs off of 1 hit while striking out 1 batter. On 8/15, Smith would face Beloit for 2.0 innings and would only allow 1 hit in the win for Smith and the Bees. Later in the week to finish up the series and the week, Smith would continue pitching against Beloit again for 2.0 innings allowing only 1 hit and striking out 1 batter in another win. Smith has an ERA of 2.65 on the season

Cam O’Brien – Bluefield Bluejays, Single A Rookie (BlueJays)

O’Brien only saw action twice this week for Bluefield. In a home game facing Pulaski, O’Brien would go 0-2 in the game on 8/12. Later in the week on 8/18, O’Brien would travel to Pulaski and would go 1-1 with 2 runs scored in the game. O’Brien now has a batting average of .340 on the season

Ray Guerrini – Bakersfield Blaze, Single A Advanced (Mariners) 

Guerrini would play 2 games this week for Everett this week. On 8/13 facing Salem-Keizer, Guerrini would go 0-3 and then on 8/15, Guerrini would go 0-1. Guerrini was also moved up to the Single A Advanced affiliate of the Mariners known as the Bakersfield Blaze. Guerrini now has a batting average of .235 on the season.
