WVUPro’s Dugout Report: Mountaineers avoid trades at the deadline, McBroom sent down

This week we get you caught up on all things related to the Mountaineer baseball alumni and how they are doing in both the MiLB and the MLB for the week of 7/29-8/4. No players were traded at the end of the MLB trade deadline.

Bobby Boyd – Lancaster Jethawks, Single-A Advanced (Astros)

Boyd saw action 5 times this week for the Jethawks. Finishing up a road series facing Bakersfield, Boyd went 0-5 on both 7/29 and 7/30. To start off August, Boyd would see action facing Lake Elsinore in a 3 game home series (which Boyd would play twice). On 8/1, Boyd went 1-3 with 1 run, 1 homerun, and 3 RBI’s, while on 8/2 Boyd would go 0-5 with 2 runs. After a day off, Boyd would come back to face Modesto in a home series on 8/4 in which he would go 1-4 with 1 run. After this week’s games, Boyd brings his batting average to .178

Harrison Musgrave – Albuquerque Isotopes, Triple-A (Rockies)

Musgrave only saw action once pitching for the Isotopes. In an away game facing Tacoma, Musgrave would pitch for 5.0 innings and would allow 2 runs off of 4 hits while striking out 4 batters. Musgrave brings his ERA to 4.98 on the season.

John Means – Bowie Baysox, Double A (Orioles) 

Means would only see action pitching for the Baysox once this week. In an away series facing Reading, Means pitched for 6.0 innings and allowed 4 runs off of 7 hits while striking out 4 batters in the loss. Means brings his ERA to 5.19 on the season.

Sean Carley – Charleston Riverdogs, SIngle A (Yankees)

Sean Carley saw action twice while pitching for the Riverdogs. On 7/30, Carley pitched 3.0 innings against Lexington and allowed 2 runs off 1 hit while striking out 2 batters. To start the month of August, Carley pitched 2.0 innings and allowed 1 hit while striking out 2 batters in an away game facing Kannapolis. Carley now has an ERA of 2.08 on the season.

Corey Walter – Midland Rockhounds, Double A (Athletics) 

Walter pitched once this week for the Rockhounds. On 8/1, Walter would start the month pitching against Frisco in an away game. Walter would pitch for 4.0 innings and would allow 0 runs off of 6 hits while striking out 3 batters in the win. Walter has an ERA of 1.03 on the season.

Ryan McBroom – Dunedin Bluejays, Single A (BlueJays)

McBroom would see action 5 times this week for the Fisher Cats. On 7/29, McBroom would face Richmond in a 4 game road series (started on 7/28). On 7/29, McBroom went 2-4 with 1 run, 1 homerun, and 1 RBI, while on 7/30, McBroom went 0-3 and then on 7/31, McBroom went 1-3 to finish off the series and the month of July. McBroom was sent back down to Dunedin and would see his return game on 8/3 facing Clearwater. On 8/3, McBroom went 2-4 with 1 hit, 1 homerun, and 2 RBI’s. The next day on 8/4, McBroom would go 1-4 with 1 hit, 1 homerun, and 3 RBI’s. McBroom has a batting average of .212 on the season.

 

Blake Smith – Burlington Bees, Single A (Angles) 

Smith pitched twice for the Bees this week. On 7/30, Smith would pitch 3.0 innings against Cedar Rapids and would allow 1 run off of 1 hit while striking out 3 batters. On 8/3, Smith would pitch 3.1 innings in an away game facing Wisconsin. Smith on 8/3, would allow 0 runs off of 2 hits while striking out 2 batters. Smith has an ERA of 3.47 on the season.

 

Cam O’Brien – Bluefield Bluejays, Single A Rookie (BlueJays)

O’Brien saw action 3 times this week for the Bluejays. In a home game on 7/29 facing Greenville, O’Brien would go 0-3. Later in the week in an away game facing Burlington, O’Brien would go 2-2 with 2 runs, 1 homerun, and 1 RBI. To finish off the week for the Bluejays in a home game facing Danville, O’Brien went 0-3. O’Brien has a batting average of .333 on the season.

 

Ray Guerrini – Arizona League Mariners, Rookie Arizona League

Guerrini saw action only once for the Mariners. In a home game facing the Arizona League Padres on 8/2, Guerrini went 1-2. Guerrini has a batting average of .400 on the season.

 

Jedd Gyorko – St. Louis Cardinals

Gyorko saw action 6 times this week for St. Louis. On 7/29 picking back up on the away series facing the Marlins, Gyorko went 0-1, while going 1-4 on 7/30 and then going 1-3 on 7/31 to finish up the away series. Later on in the week, Gyorko would stay on the road to face the Reds. On 8/2, Gyorko went 1-4 with 1 run, 1 homerun, and 1 RBI. The next day on 8/3, Gyorko would go 1-5 with 1 RBI. Gyorko would finish off the week on 8/4 going 0-4. Gyorko has a batting average of .248 on the season.
