Thursday night brings the start of the second week of preseason football, meaning the regular season is right around the corner. Thursday night’s games have several opportunities for WVUPros match ups, as do the rest of weekend’s games.

In a match-up of WVUPros, Thursday night brings Raiders Bruce Irvin and Karl Joseph versus Don Barclay and the Green Bay Packers. Last week, Joseph made his NFL debut, as well as getting a tackle during the first series of the game. Since Joseph is recovering from his season-ending injury, it is unlikely that he will play a great amount during the preseason, but will likely have an increased role in the coming weeks. Fellow Raider Bruce Irvin also got a tackle in last week’s game. Irvin is known for his dominance on defense and will be someone to watch as the season starts. Don Barclay saw a fair amount of playing time in last week’s game as well, so it will be likely the guard will again be on the field Thursday night.

Several other WVUPros will be seen during Thursday night’s games as well. John DePalma, Najee Goode and Wendell Smallwood for the Eagles will face off against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Kevin White and the Chicago Bears play the New England Patriots. For the Bears, Nick Kwiatkoski is likely still out with his hamstring injury. Rounding out Thursday’s games, Mark Glowinski and the Seattle Seahawks play the Minnesota Vikings.

Friday night brings another round of preseason games, with Geno Smith and the Jets playing Terence Garvin and the Redskins. Smith is working out his role of backup quarterback this season to Ryan Fitzpatrick and needs to make the most of any play time the Mountaineer quarterback gets. Hopefully for Smith, he can show that he is one of the best options for the Jets and that he should be giving the opportunity to play. Preseason games are the best time to show future potential for the upcoming season.

The Arizona Cardinals and San Diego Chargers play each other Friday evening as well. With the Chargers-Cardinals match up, several WVUPros will line up against one another. Shaq Riddick and the Cardinals go up against Shaq Petteway and Dreamius Smith for the Chargers.

Saturday’s games will round out the second week of preseason football, meaning two weeks closer to the regular season, fantasy football and college games taking over Saturdays. Marquis Lucas and the Buffalo Bills will face J.T. Thomas and the New York Giants Saturday afternoon. Unfortunately, Thomas is still on the PUP list for the Giants, but Lucas will be a rookie WVUPro to look for on the field during the game.

Daryl Worley and his emerging role with the Carolina Panthers look to take on Quinton Spain and the Tennessee Titans Saturday afternoon. Last week, Worley wowed Panthers fans with his skills and will look to do the same in Saturday’s game.

Saturday’s games also showcase several other WVUPros in preseason play. Pat McAfee, the Colts and his exceptional punting skills take on the Baltimore Ravens. Charles Sims, Keith Tandy and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will face fellow Florida team Jacksonville Jaguars. Finally in the late game, Tavon Austin and the Los Angeles Rams will face the Kansas City Chiefs.

The preseason is a time for players to showcase their potential, especially rookies and players with contracts nearing their ends. That being said, many of the WVUPros that will be seen on the field this coming weekend will be showing their Mountaineer strength and capabilities as they have furthered their careers into the NFL. The regular season is creeping in around the corner and Sundays full of NFL action will be here soon.
