WVU’s Gibson Contract Worth $2.1 Million Over 3

Details emerged today regarding the specifics of WVU defensive coordinator Tony Gibson’s new 3 year contract extension which is worth $2.1 million over 3 years. Per Dave Hickman of the Charleston Gazette Gibson will stand to make $650,000 in 2015, $750,000 in 2016, and $700,000 in 2017 per the report.

The salary figures are not quite as high as first reported which were in the $800,000 range. These numbers also do not put his contract among the highest paid assistants in the country, it actually ranks him in the mid 20’s at this point. Regardless this is still a significant pay increase from his current contract. Gibson made $351,000 this past season ranking his salary 150th among assistant coaches.

The new contract will put Gibson’s salary in the same range as current WVU assistant and senior associate head coach Tom Bradley who made $601,000 this past season. Gibson has revamped a less than stellar WVU defense including a defensive masterpiece against Baylor this season.
