NORFOLK, Va.- West Virginia would be dominant on offense to the start of the match, and it would not take long to find the back of the net. Assists from Yutaro Tsukada and Adam Burchell would help set up a goal for Marcus Calderia and give the Mountaineers an early 1-0 lead.
Not long after Calderia’s first goal, he would strike again in the 13th minute of the match. With a nice pass by Adam Burchell, Calderia managed to sneak by goalkeeper Michael Statham and put the ball in the back corner of the net, giving WVU a 2-0 lead.
This first half would be significant for Calderia and Burchell. For Calderia, he would score his first two goals of the season, and Burchell would get his first two assists.
For Old Dominion, they would struggle to put points up on the board in the first half. They would have a total of seven shots, and only one of them was on goal.
The Mountaineers would finish the first half with a 2-0 lead and would have five shots and two shots on goal.
Burchell would add a goal to his already special night to start the second half for the Mountaineers. Dyon Dromers would pass the ball up to Burchell, who would then beat out his defenders and take a chip shot over Statham to send the ball into the back of the net and give WVU a 3-0 lead in the 48th minute.
West Virginia would continue to pour on the goals, and in the 57th minute, Dromers would put the ball in the net after a cross pass by Aaron Denk Garcia.
For Dromers, this would be his second goal of the season, and Denk Garcia would also pick up his first assist.
Old Dominion could not formulate anything on offense in the second half and would end up leaving the match with nine shots, only one being on goal.
West Virginia’s offense would be too much for the Monarchs as they would fall 4-0 to the Mountaineers as they pick up their first Sun Belt Conference win of the year.
WVU will return home on Tuesday night to take on Leigh University at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium.
