In the latest NCAA Baseball Tournament projections, West Virginia baseball is continuing their climb.
West Virginia baseball has been teetering on the edge of not just hosting a regional, but entering to be a top-eight seed and earn the right to host a super regional.
That dream became a whole lot more of a reality as the Mountaineers checked in as a top-eight national seed on Wednesday. D1Baseball’s weekly NCAA Tournament projections put the Mountaineers as the No. 7 overall seed and hosting a Morgantown Regional. If West Virginia were to win this regional, they would then secure home field advantage at Monongalia County Ballpark for the super regional round (final 16 teams), with the winner of the super regional headed to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.
West Virginia’s projected region includes No. 2 Maryland, No. 3 Texas State, and No. 4 Wright State.
West Virginia previously played Maryland in College Park back on Feb. 21, where the Mountaineers won 8-6. Maryland is ranked No. 19 in the country in D1Baseball’s latest top 25 rankings.
The winner of the Morgantown regional would face the winner of the Columbia regional with one-seeded South Carolina.
