The West Virginia women’s soccer team fell to Houston on Sunday evening.
The game started out in West Virginia’s favor as they were able to get the offense going with shots on goal but none were able to find the back of the net.
In the 24th minute Houston’s Cameryn Maddox played a ball into the middle of the box that found the foot of Alexis Fowlkes who was able to find the goal and give the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
The lead did not last long as in the 26th minute the Mountaineer’s Maddie Moreau played a through ball to Taylor White who put the ball past the Houston goalie to tie the game at 1-1.
Just six minutes later Houston’s Caitlyn Matthews took a corner kick which found the head of Sofia Weber who made it 2-1 in favor of the Cougars.
In the second half the Mountaineers had several opportunities to make the game level but could not get the ball past Houston’s Olivia Dietrich.
The 2-1 score would prove to be the final.
