Mountain State Derby, round two.
The No. 3-seeded West Virginia men’s soccer team will travel to Huntington on Sunday to take on top-seeded Marshall in another edition of the Mountain State Derby for the Sun Belt Conference Championship.
These two teams faced off earlier this season in Morgantown, with the Mountaineers upsetting the then No. 1 ranked Marshall 5-2 in front of a record-setting crowd at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown.
West Virginia beat South Carolina 2-0 on Wednesday, while Marshall beat Kentucky 3-0, sending each team to the championship match.
The winner of Sunday’s contest is going to earn the Sun Belt’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament, while both teams are still hoping to gain a top-four seed which would secure home field advantage until the College Cup. This will be these two teams’ sixth matchup since 2019. Marshall is 2-0-1 against the Mountaineers at home in that span.
The game is scheduled for Sunday, Nov 12, with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m. The game can be seen on ESPN+.
