West Virginia baseball is set to start their season in the coming weeks, but before that happens they got a new look to their home field.
Wagener Field at Monongalia County Ballpark underwent significant construction this offseason. Not to change anything structurally about the ballpark, but to install new turf for the Mountaineers.
The new design features the state outline in center field with the flying WV in the middle. It also has a new look on the infield. Instead of the old turf which featured a brown colored turf infield, this time it’s a lighter shade of green than the outfield, with white lines going around the infield.
The areas around the bases are in brown, with the home plate circle also in brown colored turf. The pitchers mound also has a change to it from the previous field, as it’s a turf mound instead of a dirt mound.
WVU’s home opener is set for Feb. 28, against Canisius.
